National Digital Twin Day

So I’ve been asked to get involved with the Centre for Digital Built Britain and in particular looking at the strategy at a national level and how Ofgem, with the Energy Data Taskforce report driving it forward, will start to put the building blocks in place that will lead the UK energy industry towards a digital twin. A national digital twin isn’t just an ecosystem of many digital twins securely sharing data, as this suggests only two levels, each industry sector digital twin is yet enough landscape of data, maps and digital systems that make up digital twins or each organisation that make up that sector. I firmly believe that the energy industry will be the trailblazer for this. ...and once again it’s all about data. First to make that data visible, then secondly make the data and the associated digital services interoperable and then thirdly to use the minimum key interoperability standards, to turn individual building blocks into a landscape representing the foundation of a digital twin. Architects take that step back, and with each step a complex system becomes just a cog within the larger machine. To look at the entire energy sector as one machine, is the greatest challenge to date.
